Statistics show March was indeed pretty cold and snowy in Illinois. State Climatologist Jim Angel says the statewide average temperature last month came in at 38.2 degrees. That's about three degrees below normal.

Average statewide precipitation for March was nearly 2 ½ inches, which is about ½ inch below normal. However, that was not evenly distributed, with northern Illinois fairly dry last month and southern Illinois receiving a lot more.
