The former Macoupin County Board Chairman Andy Manar is getting ready to head to Springfield just after the first of the year to be sworn in as one of the new freshman senators. Manar has been a rising star on the political scene in Macoupin County since being elected mayor of Bunker Hill at the age of 21, and was elected to the 48th District State Senate seat about a month ago.
Manar is a Democrat, but feels he can use his experience on the county board to get things done at the state level.
Of his time on the county board, he says he is proud of what has been accomplished, including the furthering of fiscal responsibility. He points to reducing the size of the county board by one-third, bidding electricity purchase countywide, with an expected savings of 30% annually, and promoting economic development.
