Illinois State Senator Andy Manar is open to giving Ag giant ADM a tax incentive to stay in Illinois, but there are a couple conditions. ADM would have to commit to adding 100-jobs a year in Decatur, for the next five years. And, they’d have to move 100 jobs from other states to Decatur. Manar, a Bunker Hill Democrat, apparently worked with ADM execs to come up with the deal.
He’s filed a bill that could be heard as early as next week when lawmakers come back to Springfield. ADM wants to move its headquarters out of Decatur and has been looking at several cities, including Chicago and Minneapolis. Manar says the new deal could keep ADM in Illinois and result in a major economic boost, especially in Decatur where the unemployment rate is exceptionally high.
