An Alton man wanted for home invasion and who reportedly ran from police in two states is now behind bars.  44 year old Steven Roswell was taken into custody on Tuesday after he was released from a St. Louis hospital where he had been recovering from injuries sustained in a traffic crash while allegedly fleeing from authorities.

Last Monday night, police were called to the home in the 2800 block of Gerson Avenue in Godfrey where Roswell allegedly forced his way into the residence of a  female acquaintance.  That's where police allege Roswell was carrying a knife and physically attacked the women before she was able to escape and flee to a neighbors' home for help.  Roswell was confronted by a male neighbor and he then fled as the woman was calling police.  Roswell led police in Madison County and then St. Louis County on a chase that eventually ended when he crashed into a truck while driving the wrong way on Highway 67 in West Alton.  He has been hospitalized since last Tuesday morning but is now in the Madison County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bond.
