The heavy rains that began Wednesday evening resulted in a swollen creek and a water rescue Thursday morning in Jersey County. Police say a man in his 70’s was swept off of North Dabbs Road near South Creek in the Otterville area at around 3am. He was not injured and brought to safety about three hours later.
Chief Deputy Kevin Klaas with the Jersey County Sheriff’s Department tells The Big Z the victim was found in with his car about 3 ½ feet of water.

The National Weather Service says just a foot of water can cause many cars to float, and two feet of rushing water can sweep away even SUV's and trucks. The Alton Fire Department assisted rescuers from the QEM Fire Protection District.
