CordesAn Alton man will spend time in jail after admitting that he was under the influence when his car struck and killed a bicyclist in Alton almost three years ago.   54-year-old Allen Cordes of the 500 block of Anderson Street entered the plea on Wednesday in Madison County Court and could receive three to seven years in jail.

The incident took place the evening of April 13, 2013 when Cordes drove his van into a bicycle ridden by 50 year old James Allen Stewart of Alton on East Broadway near Come-In-Place.  Stewart died at the scene.   Sentencing is set for a later date and Cordes must serve at least 85-percent of that sentence.
