A St. Louis man entered a guilty plea on Tuesday to a December 2011 murder in Alton. 22 year old Larry Belk pleaded guilty to one count of felony first degree murder in exchange for a 20 year prison sentence in the death of Tyler Hoppe outside Hoppe’s home in the 1200 block of Hampton Street.
Madison County Prosecutors now have two of the three men allegedly involved in the case headed to jail. The gunman in the killing, Nigel Generally of Berkley, Missouri, has already pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to 40 years in jail for his role in the crime. Authorities say Belk pleaded guilty after they indicated there were witnesses that placed Belk and Generally at the scene of the crime. Belk and Generally were apparently planning to rob Hoppe in an alley outside his home when the shooting took place. Another man, Hosie Burgess, Jr., of Alton is being held in connection with the shooting for allegedly supplying the weapon used in the crime.
