A Wood River man received probation from a federal judge in a case involving illegal gun sales.  Verle Traub was accused of attempting to sell more than 100 weapons to undercover federal agents, but will not serve jail time because his attorney said the man was in debt following the death of his wife and was the victim of a past Madison County tax sale.

Traub pleaded guilty in court on Thursday to a charge of illegal gun sales He will have to forfeit all of his guns, which include shotguns, pistols, and at least one derringer.  The sales happened over the course of about 13 months, from March of 2010 to April of 2011.
