A Troy, Illinois, man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a child in his care. 66-year-old David Hahs was found guilty yesterday of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse during a trial in Madison County Court.
Hahs was supposed to be babysitting the child at the time the abuse occurred between January 2011 and October 2013 when the child told another adult what had happened. The now 6-year old provided testimony about the incidents that was used in court. Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons credits the Troy Police Department, the Child Advocacy Center, and the Children’s Justice Division in his office for their handling of the case, but he most credited the victim who he called brave for telling her story. Hahs faces up to 67 years in prison upon sentencing and he remains held in the Madison County Jail.
