Charges have been filed against an Edwardsville man in connection with several cases of graffiti damage in Edwardsville earlier this summer. 22-year-old Alexander Phelps is charged with damaging several buildings in the downtown area, as well as with spray-painting on a rest stop along I-55 and a bridge in the city.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office says Phelps is responsible for graffiti on the rest stop building at mile marker 24 along Interstate 55 as well as on a bridge in the 1100 block of St. Louis Street. He is also accused of damaging five buildings in downtown Edwardsville and a burglarizing one of them. He is charged with two counts of criminal damage to government-supported property, five counts of criminal damage to property and burglary. Phelps is held in the Madison County Jail in lieu of $100,000.
