A Grafton man has been charged with stalking an East Alton woman, allegedly appearing in the dark outside her home over the past three weeks. 27 year old Joshua Brockman of the 17-thousand-400 block of Yates Road in Grafton was arrested last Friday after police discovered the man’s car parked near the victim’s home.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department was called April 19 and April 23 regarding a complaint of a suspicious person outside a home in the 500 block of California in East Alton. On both occasions, a woman claimed there had been a man standing outside her bedroom window making lewd comments. Following the second call, police set up cameras in the area to better respond in the future. Sheriff’s deputies, along with police from East Alton and Bethalto again responded on May 1 to another call of a suspicious subject outside the window and while a police canine unit was unable to track the suspect, a suspicious vehicle was found parked nearby with a recently stolen purse found inside. Police also viewed the security video that showed a masked person looking into the woman’s home. Police say the vehicle belonged to Brockman, who was contacted at his home on May 2 in Grafton and was arrested. Brockman is charged with three felony counts of aggravated stalking, unlawful restraint and public indecency. He is being held on a bond of $200,000.
