A Bethalto man has been accused of defrauding an investor in a Godfrey nutritional supplement business. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department says 28 year old Patrick D. Jeffries of the 400 block of Shellview is charged with forgery, insurance fraud and disorderly conduct in connection with incidents at Kong Supplements on the Homer Adams Parkway.
Authorities were contacted about a reported burglary at the business back in April, where a deputy met with Jeffries who claimed about $2,000 in nutritional supplements were stolen and large screen television was damaged along with an interior door. In August, deputies were contacted by an investor in Kong Supplements who claimed his name had been forged on credit and loan applications. A Sheriff’s Department investigator then determined Jeffries staged the April burglary for insurance fraud purposes after he filed a $6,000 claim with State Farm Insurance. Jeffries was arrested at a supplements business in Affton, Missouri, last week after the charges were filed in Madison County. His bond has been set at $100,000.
