Madison County States Attorney Tom Gibbons announced Friday that a guilty plea had been entered for a Madison man for his role in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Granite City. 24-year-old Travis E. Crain, who was charged in late April last year, plead guilty to one count of Failure to Report an Accident Involving Personal Injury or Death, which is a Class 1 Felony.

At just before 8am Sunday April 19th, 2015, Granite City Police responded to a 911 call that described a man who appeared to be dead in the road near the 2500 block of Edwardsville Rd. The victim was identified as 25-year-old Mark S. Harris, of St. Louis. It was determined a short time later that he was a victim of hit-and-run. The police identified Crain using surveillance video near the scene of the crime and determined that the accident had occurred at approximately 3am. Police believe Crain was texting while driving when he hit Harris walking along Edwardsville Rd. Crain is in custody and has been held since charged. He faces a sentence ranging from probation to 4-8 years in prison.
