The Illinois Department of Transportation is urging motorists to watch out for deer. This is the time of year when car vs. deer crashes increase, and statistics released this week shows Madison County led the state in the number of those types of incidents last year.

He says if you hit a deer, call the local police to report it. If the deer has been injured, he says they can humanely put it out of its misery. The number of deer versus vehicle crashes is slowly declining, with about 15,300 reported in Illinois last year. Madison County recorded 432 deer collisions last year.
