In schools all around Madison County, students, faculty and staff are working together to make their schools GREEN Schools.  In addition to implementing a number of green initiatives at every county facility, the county's extensive recycling projects are offered to every public, parochial and private school in the county.

During November, America's Recycling Month, Madison County schools initiated the respective recycling projects in which they will participate.  The GREEN Schools program is taught in over 25,000 school classrooms across the country.  According to the county's website, a green school practices environmentally sustainable concepts such as reducing, reusing & recycling; using eco-friendly, non-toxic cleaning materials; a green schoolyard habitat; composting; and energy conservation and efficiency practices - including water cnservation, air quality monitoring and renewable energy.
