The Madison County Board has approved a budget that for the fifth year in a row shows a slight decrease from the year before. The budget brought before the board at its meeting this week is for $130,317,000. Last year’s budget was for $130,418,000. Madison County Administrator Joe Parente says several capital improvement projects are funded in this year’s budget.
Those include the restoration of the exterior of the courthouse, and a roof replacement at the County Administration Building. He says the next fiscal year will include the replacement of the HVAC system at the courthouse.

He says $1.5-million has been set aside in anticipation of the costs of piecemealing the first round of repairs at the jail. The property tax levy for 2015 is expected to be one-tenth of one percent lower than the previous year.
