The Madison County 9-1-1 emergency system is up and running again, after being down for most of the day Friday. The issue began after a construction crew apparently severed a fiber-optic line in Pontoon Beach. During the outage, police were able to patch together a crude 9-1-1 system by manning satellite 9-1-1 call centers at various locations throughout the county.

The outage appeared to last about 12 hours, as an e-mail was sent out by the Madison County Sheriff's Department stating service appeared to have been restored, and each 9-1-1 center was receiving calls.  Officials say an outage of this scope had never happened before, and remind your local police or fire department can also be reached by dialing their seven-digit telephone number.
