It appears to be a bit of discord between House Speaker Michael Madigan and his daughter, Attorney General Lisa Madigan. The two don’t typically talk about their private family discussions, but Speaker Madigan put the spotlight on Lisa this week. He says she knew all along that he had no intentions of stepping down while she considered a run for governor.
The Speaker’s statement underscores Lisa’s statement that she never planned to run for governor while her powerful dad was still in charge at the state House. The Attorney General took her time making the decision and raked in big cash doing so. She made an announcement last month that she would skip a bid for the state’s top job and run for reelection instead, claiming she didn’t think it was right for her to be governor while her dad was still Speaker. Lisa’s decision came on the heels of a Metra patronage scandal that involved her father.
