There are thousands more Macoupin County records on the county's website, a continuing effort by the current administration to increase transparency. An emphasis on how tax money is being spent highlights the increased information that is available. The push to put more information online began about this time last year.
It was in conjunction with Sunshine Week 2011 that Macoupin County Board President Andy Manar stated the importance of open government and freedom of information.
The County Clerk plans to add the "checkbook summaries" online each month following the meeting of the County Board and has added historical monthly spending summaries dating to 1996. The spending summaries indicate monthly spending figures by each office and department in county government and are broken down into specific spending categories. The monthly posted reports also house information on county revenue, various caseload information, and public official and employee salaries.
