The annual Elijah P. Lovejoy Week continues into the weekend, with the free music festival at Lovejoy Elementary School scheduled for tonight. There will be a number of acts beginning at 7pm, including the highly touted Alton High School Jazz Band. After that, Lovejoy Trustee Ed Gray says there will be few more events to wrap up the week, including the annual dinner at 7pm at the Trimpe Building at Lewis & Clark Community College.
Among the highlights of the dinner is the presentation of the Human Rights Award. This year’s recipients are Madison County Urban League President Brenda Walker McCain, and Jesse Lundun Cannon, who will receive the honor posthumously.
