The Elijah P. Lovejoy Memorial Scholarship Program is set for Today at 4p.m. in the Jesse L. Cannon Gymnasium at Lovejoy School. The scholarship has been given out for over 50 years and this year will be given out to a total of 10 students.

This year's winner of the Elijah P. Lovejoy Memorial Scholorship is Jordann Wilson, a recent graduate from Alton High School. Jordann was a memeber of the National Honor Society and was on the Girls' Varsity Basketball Team. Trustee for the Lovejoy Memorial Ed Gray tells The Big Z Board Member and pastor of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church Kehvin Williams will be the master of ceremonies and Minney Robertson will sing.

After that program at around 4:45 the program will move on to the Lovejoy grave site where Minney Robertson will have another vocal selection and Reverend Stanley Henderson will give the Benediction as all 10 students place a wreath on the grave site The program plans to continue awarding one $6,250 to one recipient per year which is renewable for four years and 9 one time Academic Achievement Awards of $3,000. Those recipients were finalists for the larger scholarship.
