A local daycare center with more than three decades of history will close its doors this month. Beltline Christian Daycare in Alton will close May 25 so the center can be used for youth ministry by Beltline Christian Center. The growing congregation says it feels called to expand its offerings and use the building for something else.

The daycare opened in 1979, and former students have been through the program as teachers during that time. The center employs about a dozen teachers, substitutes and other staff, most of whom will be looking for new jobs. The center currently has 37 kids ages 2-4, along with more than two dozen school age children who attend the before and after school programs.
