Logging work is scheduled to begin next month on the land behind Alton High School that will one day be home to new athletic fields. Last May, the Alton School Board approved a $2.5-million project for the nearly 30-acre plot of land in order to hold more high schools sports games and practices to the campus.
Alton School District Director of Building and Grounds Dave McClintock says the final details of the project should be finished this week:

Once the logging is complete, the initial phase calls for upgrading the current soccer practice field to a game field with a surrounding 8-lane track, the construction of a varsity baseball facility, two multi-purpose fields that will be used for physical education, soccer, football, and Marching 100 practices, a cross-country course, and a new restroom and concession facility. McClintock says they hope to have the fields ready in time for the 2015-2016 school year.
