Lockhaven Country Club in Jersey County is facing a more uncertain future after receiving notice of foreclosure proceedings this week. Lockhaven Development Corporation, which owns the property, and Lockhaven Country Club, which operates the golf course, banquet facility and restaurant, is behind on its loan payments to The Bank of Edwardsville which took the foreclosure action in Jersey County Court.
Lockhaven has been hit hard in recent years by the economic downturn, and the decrease in local industry that has cut into its membership. While it has about 250 members, that's down by about 100 from the mid 1960's, and in an attempt to bring in more revenue, the club has opened more time for public play on its golf course, and opened the restaurant to the public on the weekends. The move has reportedly improved income, but not enough to continue to make its loan payments on time, forcing the hand of the bank. Lockhaven remains open, but the future is unclear as board members hope to meet with bank officials to map out a plan to resolve the financial issues.
