A local woman’s work with people working to overcome disabilities has been recognized at the state level. Amy Foster of Alton has been named a member of the Statewide Independent Living Council of Illinois. The council helped create the Statewide Independent Living Plan

The Statewide Independent Living Council of Illinois, formed in 1993, is a not-for-profit statewide planning organization. The mission of the organization, according to its website, is to provide leadership, research, planning and education required to support independent living services in Illinois.
