More than half of all Illinois residents will be considered obese by the year 2030 according to a new study by the advocacy group Trust for America's Health. The group found that 27-percent of all Illinois residents right now are considered obese and by 2030 that number will swell to 54-percent. If you don't want to be a part of those statistics, local health experts say you should start an exercise and diet program now.
To help with that process, St. Anthony's Hospital and Nautilus Fitness Center is teaming up for a 12-week weight loss program called the Biggest loser in the Riverbend. It's based on the popular TV series, but nobody gets voted off. Personal trainer and Nautilus general Manager Suzie Sweetman says throughout the course, they will focus on making healthy changes that will last a lifetime.
The $25 program fee will include open access and membership at Nautilus and Godfrey Curves, weekly weigh-ins, health tips, cholesterol and glucose screenings, and guaranteed cash prizes. $250 is on the line for the winner. For more information or to register, call 465-2264.
