Street racing will likely become a more common sight as the weather gets nicer, but the illegal practice is highly dangerous, and sometimes deadly. A local racetrack is hoping to provide an outlet for those with a need for speed. Gateway Motorsports Park is opening its drag strip a couple of nights a week, and hosting events that should appeal to the street racers in the St. Louis area.
Instead of racing illegally on the roads, Wide-Open Wednesday and Midnight Madness provide car enthusiasts with the opportunity to operate their cars on the safe confines of Gateway’s NHRA sanctioned drag strip. The track's Chris Blair says many street racers don't know how much of a risk they are taking.
Gates open for Wide-Open each Wednesday at 5pm with racing from 6-10:30 p.m. Gates open the first Friday of each month for Midnight Madness at 7pm with drag racing, drifting, music and special attractions from 8pm-2am. For more information, call (618) 215-8888, or follow the link
