Matt HerndonA local teacher has been named the Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Illinois Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.  Matt Herndon of Lewis and Clark Junior High School in Wood River received the honor recently and will be formally honored later this fall during a reception in St. Charles, Illinois.

Herndon has been the physical education teacher for the 6th through 8th graders at the school for the past 16 years and was lauded for providing students with flexible, adaptable and dynamic classroom exercises.  Herndon is an East Alton native and a graduate of SIU-Edwardsville.  He will now be eligible to apply for the Midwest SHAPE (Society of Health and Physical Educators) Award Teacher of the Year and the Midwest District Teacher of the Year.
