Local soccer leagues are not seeing an increase in participation following the Women’s World Cup win over the weekend.  Local sports programs will often see an increase in participation following high-visibility victories by national teams, but so far that does not seem to be the case in a number of Riverbend communities.

But in Alton, Parks & Recreation Director Mike Haynes says morale is high.

In Wood River, the soccer leagues don’t start until fall, so Parks & Recreation Director Jason Woody is hopeful the win will translate into more participants.  Team USA routed Japan, 5-2, in the Women's World Cup Final in Vancouver on Sunday in the highest-scoring Final in Women's World Cup history.
