A local racer has died of injuries sustained in a highway accident.  58-year-old Lynn Simburger of Elsah crashed head-on into another vehicle just south of the intersection of 6th Street and U.S. Route 67 just after 5am on Monday, August 22.  Police report his vehicle had crossed the center line just before the crash.

Simburger was a long-time employee of Clark Boat and Motor in East Alton, although he hadn't worked there for about a year-and-a-half.  He was also a champion Formula 1 Powerboat racer, finishing in the top-5 in the nation several times over the course of his career.  Simburger died Wednesday morning.  Arrangements are being handled through Paynic Home for Funerals.
