Ten Alton firefighters were recognized in Springfield Thursday during the annual Firefighter Medal of Honor Ceremony. The ceremony, held on the grounds of the State Capital, honors those who died in the line of duty in 2012, as well as those who displayed exemplary actions in the line of duty.
In the case of the team from Alton, Fire Chief Bernie Sebold says it was recognition of a job well done at a house fire on July 14 of last year.
The fire was in the 600 block of E. 7th Street, as firefighters pulled Clarice Bramlett to safety. Captain Matt Williams and Firefighter John Bolling received the Firefighter Excellence Award, and Captains Tim Quigley, Jesse Jemison, Rick Newman, Engineers Tom Whitmore, Tim Matifes, Shelton Williams, Paul Billeau and Firefighter Todd Sissom received Certificates of Recognition for their efforts that day.
