A series of small equipment grants are being disbursed to fire departments around the Riverbend. Among those getting help from the state is Wood River, which will use its gift to purchase 6 new sets of turnout gear. Turnout gear is the protective suit that firefighters wear to keep them as safe as possible when going into a burning structure.
Wood River Fire Chief Steve Alexander says the state approved their grant in the amount of $11,400. He says he hopes to find funding for even more purchases in the future.
