This is the sesquicentennial of the death of Abraham Lincoln, and events are being planned across the country to commemorate that, as well as the end of the Civil War.  There is a local connection to the re-creation of the funeral procession.  Alton Regional Convention and Visitor’s Bureau President Brett Stawar tells The Big Z the Historic Elsah Foundation had a big role.

He says there will be a local commemoration in October to be held at Lincoln – Douglas Square that will be combined with the anniversary celebration of the Lincoln – Douglas debates.
