Sally Foster helped create Blue Kids Lake County, a visual awareness and online campaign. “We’re also doing social media,” Foster said. “We post a message almost every day on Facebook about links to websites for parents and positive parenting tips.” Richard Calica, director Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, says his office handles 70,000 reports of child abuse and neglect every year, but he says 80 percent of child abuse goes unreported. The theme for Child Abuse Prevention Month is give, volunteer, act.
