Illinois is not that much of a pork-cattle-dairy state anymore, and the livestock lobby wants that to change. Nic Anderson of the Illinois Livestock Development Group says, “I think it’s really more of a movement from lesser-cost production-type systems. Years ago, we moved cattle out West for a lot of different reasons, but, mostly, it was cost of production. As those costs rise, and we get closer to our inputs, it becomes more beneficial to the Midwest for that to come back.”
