Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is explaining her decision to stay out of the governor’s race. “As you can imagine, there’s a process that I went through in terms of evaluating how I could best continue to serve the people of the state of Illinois,” said Madigan. “Obviously, that involved private conversations that I will not be going through publicly.”

Citing a potential conflict of interest with her father, Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago), the attorney general is opting instead to run for a fourth term in that office. Lisa Madigan says a conflict doesn’t exist with the two in their current positions. “I think the results that we have produced out of the attorney general’s office over the last 10½ years speak for themselves,” Madigan said.
She added that she was honest with all of her supporters from the start that she may decide not to seek the governorship.
