This year is the sesquicentennial of the death of Abraham Lincoln, and events are being planned across the country to commemorate that, as well as the end of the Civil War. There is a local connection to the re-creation of the funeral procession. A re-creation of Lincoln’s Coffin is being unveiled today in Elsah.
It’s the only public appearance prior to the funeral reenactment in Springfield in early May. Tim Tomlinson, Chair of the Great Rivers Lincoln Coffin Project, tells The Big Z a ceremonial honor guard will transport the coffin on May 2nd from a funeral train car along a historic route until it winds up at the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

There will be more ceremonies on May 3rd in Springfield. Also on display today in Elsah, the Brooks Brothers will have its authentic Lincoln Coat on display in the historic Farley’s Music Hall.
