An area lifeguard pulled a struggling child from a pool and revived him on Tuesday. The 3-year-old boy was pulled from the Wilson Park Pool in Granite City and the lifeguard used chest compressions to help the child breathe. The child had apparently wandered into water over his head.
Authorities say the 18-year-old lifeguard on duty noticed the child was struggling in about three feet of water and began the rescue. He pulled the child from the water and found the 3 year old was not breathing. He began several chest compressions and the child began to cough up water and breathe on his own. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and the child was taken to a local hospital for observation, but was otherwise not seriously injured.
