A Centreville man will spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted in February of first-degree murder. Scottie Thompson killed an East St. Louis man in August of 2013 and dumped his body at Horseshoe Lake Park. Thompson had only been out of prison since February, having done time for a 1989 murder in St. Clair County.
Due to that conviction, Thompson was facing natural life in prison, a sentence that was handed down by Circuit Judge Richard Tognaerlli. Investigators said Thompson and 20-year-old Dakota C. Jones met in East St. Louis and Thompson agreed to give Jones a ride. Police think the fatal assault occurred several hours later with Thompson eventually dumping Jones' body into the lake. It took a Madison County jury less than an hour to convict a Thompson of first-degree murder.
