An employee of the Wood River Public Library has been charged with theft over $500. 29 year old Reilly Belli of the 500 block of North First Street in Wood River allegedly stole money that was supposed to have been used for continuing education classes. Police took him into custody on Thursday after the charges were filed and he remains in custody.
In January, Wood River Police began an investigation into Belli who was employed as the technical/circulator supervisor for the Wood River Public Library after city treasurer Nancy Schneider questioned certain college reimbursement requests. Schneider is also the treasurer for the library board, and wanted documentation to back up the request, but reportedly was not satisfied with the response from Belli or other members of the library staff. Wood River Police Chief Otis Steward says that's when they got involved:
Authorities say the total amounts to more than $7,000. Belli's attorney contacted police on Thursday, and he turned himself in shortly after 4pm. He remains held in lieu of $50,000 bond at the Wood River jail.
