In the wake of a Wood River Public Library employee being charged with stealing money from the city, two library board members have been removed from their positions. Gone are Mary Smith and Debbie Thien. 29-year-old Reilly Belli allegedly stole money that was supposed to have been used for continuing education classes. The situation came to a head in council chambers Monday night.
Mary Smith accused the city of wanting to have control over the library board.
Mayor Fred Ufert says there is no conspiracy to take more power over the library.
City Finance Director Nancy Schneider and Police Chief Otis Steward will fill the unexpired terms of Smith and Thien respectively. New appointees are Councilwoman Sharon Kadell, Kathleen Meyers and Rhonda Pluester.
