An investigation launched last year has resulted in felony charges against an East Alton couple. 72-year old Van A. Long and his wife, 70-year old Eileen L. Long were each charged with one felony county of Official Misconduct and one felony count of Prohibited Interest in Contracts Monday by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons says the charges are the result of their actions as members of the East Alton Library Board.

Gibbons credits the other board members who brought this to the attention of authorities in August 2013. He says the investigation revealed that the Long’s were able to make financial transactions within BCK I, LLC a company that was selected to install a new roof at the East Alton Library. If convicted, the Long’s could each receive up to 8 years in prison. Bond has been set at $20,000 each.
