A bill has been introduced in Springfield that would expand property tax exemptions available to disabled veterans.  It is the hope of bill sponsor Dan Beiser (D-Alton) that passage of this bill will help keep more disabled veterans stay in their homes.

Beiser tells The Big Z disabled veterans have served their country, and deserve to be able to lead as much of an ordinary life as possible.  Under current law, former service members with 50-74 percent service connected disability are eligible for a $2,500 credit under the disabled veterans standard homestead exemption; those with a service-connected disability of 75 percent or greater can receive a $5,000 exemption.
