Lewis & Clark Community College has been a leader in sustainability programs over the years, and is the only community college to be honored with the 2013 Governor's Sustainability Award. Besides Lewis & Clark, twenty-six other Illinois companies and organizations were honored by the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center for their significant achievements in protecting the environment, helping sustain the future and improving the economy.
Nate Keener, of Lewis and Clark's Sustainability department says the college has continued to make aggressive strides toward its lofty goal of campus carbon neutrality in 2058.
A leader in community college green efforts, the college created its Sustainability Department in 2008. Since then, Keener says the college has been successful in infusing education with sustainability efforts and promoting green living and working practices throughout the community.
