Whether or not an Alton - Godfrey Connector road is ever built is still to be seen, according to two state lawmakers. State Senator Bill Haine, and State Representative Dan Beiser - both of Alton - say IDOT is performing studies right now, and before a potential route is discussed, the need for such a road must be determined. Godfrey Trustee Mike Stumpf has stated he thinks the road is unnecessary, and would like the project to be formally opposed by the Village Board.
But that, says Haine, is an example of not looking at the big picture.
State Representative Dan Beiser reminds at this point, it's a project that has barely made it out of the talking stage.
There will be another series of public meetings at sometime in the future, and Beiser suggests anyone with concerns should either volunteer for the advisory comittee, or call IDOT directly at 346-3114. You can hear the full discussions with both men here:
