Illinois high school students can become more financially literate under a bill that has moved through the state’s General Assembly. Democrat State Representative Dan Beiser of Alton was a sponsor of the bill that would require consumer education classes to cover additional topics.
Beiser says the topics are important in light of what graduates are experiencing in the real world.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York estimates that total student indebtedness now exceeds $1-trillion. The bill passed the Illinois Senate earlier this year and now awaits the governor’s signature.
