Missouri Governor Jay Nixon is asking Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to help support the naming of a new Mississippi River bridge in honor of a baseball legend.  Nixon wants Quinn to join his united effort to name the yet-to-be-completed bridge in downtown Saint Louis after Stan Musial, the Cardinals' great who passed away last weekend at age of 92.

Nixon said naming the bridge after Musial would quote, "do honor to the citizens of Illinois and Missouri."  Missouri U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill also supports the effort, and is encouraging Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin to get on board.  However, not all Illinois state lawmakers are on board.  A move several years ago to name the span the Veterans Memorial Bridge had support from a number of Metro East lawmakers, but the idea never made it out of committee.  Both legislatures in Missouri and Illinois would have to sign off on the naming, which could still be several months away.
