State Representative Dwight Kay (R-Glen Carbon) is urging the State Board of Education to delay the implementation of the new Common Core Standards.   He has introduced a resolution that asks the State Board of Education and General Assembly work together to create a viable plan to provide funding to school districts that need improvements and modernizations to comply with the new Common Core Standards and the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career's.

Kay is against to requiring districts to incur costs to upgrade their schools after the State Board of Education made the decision to move to the Common Core Standards, without input from local school districts, and without performing a cost analysis for local school districts and the state.

Kay comments

While the State Board of Education says the new standards establish clear expectations for what students should learn in English language arts and mathematics at each grade level, Representative Kay says they are largely untested in the United States.
