A Missouri lawmaker wants to keep Black Friday from becoming Black Thursday. Representative Jeffrey Roorda of Barnhart says the "Thanksgiving Family Protection Act" would make sure retailers stay closed on Thanksgiving except for pharmacies, gas stations and restaurants. Roorda came up with the bill after an on line petition was signed by over 300-thousand people telling Target to keep Thanksgiving for families.
Around the country, there were efforts by workers at some Wal-Mart stores to protest the opening of the store on Thanksgiving. Nationally, retailers reported brisk sales Thanksgiving night and into the morning on Black Friday. Roorda wants stores to remain closed at least until Midnight on Friday and avoid opening on Thanksgiving day.
