Illinois politicians are pledging their support to tech startups run by veterans. Those startups are coming out of a place called The Bunker—a Chicago-based technology incubator run for and by veterans. U.S. Sen. Mark S. Kirk (R-Ill.), who’s a veteran himself, believes he can help these companies through his new position as chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans’ Affairs.

“In that sense, I will have unique sway over the VA to make sure we can repeat this model around the country with the help of the department,” Kirk said. The Bunker now houses 19 start-up companies in Chicago. The idea is already being copied at similar incubators set to open in several other cities, including Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
